About FilmSchools.app
FilmSchools.app helps prospective filmmakers, screenwriters, producers, editors and film scholars find and compare film degrees in the United States: bachelor's degrees, master's and MFA programs, and research doctorates. You can browse by degree level, field, state, delivery and attendance, compare published costs and funding, and compare up to four programs side by side.
How the directory is built
We list a program only after checking, on the school's own pages, its exact award and whether film is the degree itself, an officially named concentration, or a substantial part of a broader film degree. Each fact — fields, attendance, admissions materials, deadlines, tuition, production costs, equipment access and funding — carries the official page it came from and the date we verified it. Institutional details (official name, address, public or private control) come from the U.S. Department of Education's IPEDS data. Details are in our methodology.
Editorial independence
Directory pages are listed alphabetically. Our “Top” and “Best” lists are editorial selections against published criteria, unnumbered and based on verified evidence only. Schools can buy clearly labeled sponsored placements; payment never changes facts, funding classifications, the order of results or editorial selections.
Coverage
Coverage is partial and growing. We started with a bounded set of programs researched in depth and add schools through the same verification workflow. If an eligible film degree is missing, tell us about it.
